Our Story

Stephen Perry began his career in the restaurant business in 1986. He turned his love of cooking, good food, entertainment and people into a business that combines his passion and experience.

Perry began his professional working career as a child actor at the age of 10. This gave him firsthand knowledge of the importance of timeliness, focus and having a friendly nature. Some of his films are "A Raisin in the Sun," "The Learning Tree," and "The Sound and the Fury." He appeared in many long-running popular television series, including "The Twilight Zone," "Dr. Kildare," "The Mod Squad," "Nanny and the Professor," and "The FBI."

When he opened the doors to his first restaurant, Stevie's on the Strip, in 1986, people were standing in line. Perry marketed the opening with radio advertising and invited his celebrity and lifetime friends and the community at large to taste Stevie's signature Smokey Fried Chicken. Word of mouth, as well as paid advertising, ensured lines and repeat visits. People drove from all over the greater Los Angeles just to get a taste of his signature fried chicken. He went on to introduce Gumbo Fridays, which quickly took off. Stevie's Gumbo quickly became the best Gumbo Los Angeles has ever seen and tasted, taking the likeness of famed food critic and Pulitzer Prize Winner Jonathan Gold. Gold claimed Stevie's Seafood Gumbo was "the best Gumbo this side of the Mississippi" in the Los Angeles Times.

In Stevie's second venture, he wanted to create an atmosphere that highlighted Creole cooking with 5-star entertainment. Opening Stevie's Creole Cafe & Bar in Encino, California, in 1999. Serving a culturally diverse clientele, some of the distinguished guests including Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, Etta James, Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Eddie Murphy, Smokey Robinson, Ray Romano, Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Shaquille O'Neal, Denzel Washington, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and many others.

Stevie's latest restaurant installment, Stevie's Creole Cafe on Pico, epitomizes cozy and comfort. Offering a food experience that will surely ignite taste buds. This family-owned business serves classic and innovative takes on our beloved Creole dishes. Many celebrity guests frequent Pico daily, from Marc Jacobs, Andre 3000, Cardi B, Master P, Kanye West and more!
